CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLIC HEALTH

   I chose mental health of mothers, fathers, and families in general. The topic is meanigful to me because wanting to be a childhood professional you never know what type of issues that a child and his or her family may be dealing with. It is very important to me that I am aware of changes or issues that a child may be going through,so that if I observe different behavior, I can hopefully the child and family.I also know someone close to me that was diagnosed with depression at the age of fifteen and it was very hard for the family.
   I found information at http://www.menshealthaustrialia.net/ A study was conducted of nearly 87,000 families in Britian and it was found that 21% of fathers and 39% of mothers experienced a period of depression by the time their children was twelve years old. 13% of mothers and 3% of fathers become depressed by the time their babies reach its first birthday. Divorced men are three times likely to committ suicide than any other. Suicide rates follows high for ages 30-34 and then ages 40-49. Married men have thwe lowest suicide rate.
   I have learned that is very important to be aware of the signs of depression and or suicide. It is very important to communicate with parents and caregivers. It would be helpful for parents with teenagers to have resources available,just in case they have a teen in trouble or know of someone else that need help.

MY PERSONAL BIRTHING EXPERIENCE

 I have not exprienced a personal childbirthing. I have two childrens but they were adopted. Health reasons occured which caused me not to be able to have children however I have a daughter and and a son. I drove one one of my sisters to the hospital to deliver. I sat in the labor room with her while the nurses connected her to the monitors to keep a check on her and the baby vital signs. When she reached 6cm.,the nurse came in and gave her and epidural shot,quickly after the shot the contractions started coming quicker,that's when I left out the room,the next minute the doctor came out and said that she had a baby boy.
 I did research on how women deliver in Japan. Majority of the women in Japan refer to deliver their baby at home with mid-wives and then go to the hospital after the baby is born to make sure the baby and herself is okay. Japan have several small hospitals that are just for childbearing. The only differences that I can compare to what I exprerienced by reading about women in Japan is that we are not going to deliver our babies at home and we do not have mid-wives that come to your home for delivery.

I want to say thanks to all my colleagues for the help they have given me during these eight weeks. It has been a privilege and a honor working with a group of educators that already have a great start with their career in life. Their are a few of us now that are not affiliated in the childhood field of work, but hopefully with the help of Walden we will in the future.I have read different things on my colleague blogs; personal and education that was very interesting to me. DEC CODE OF ETHICS:

• We shall build relationships with individual children and families while individualizing the curricula and learning environments to faciliate young children's development and learning.
• We shall demonstrate our respect and concern for children, families, colleagues,and others with whom we work,honoring their beliefs,values and customs,language and culture.
• We shall provide services and supports to children and families in a fair and equitable manner while respecting families,race,language,socioeconomic status,marital status and sexual orientation.

The significance of both of these etihics is for me to keep in mind that all children are equal but have different needs and it is my responsibility to provide the services to meet the needs of each individual.  I must build a relationship with the parents to show that I am supporting and understanding to their children.  The final thing that I have to do is show respect to each child for whom he or she is and prepare them for the future.

My Personal Childhood Web

I cannot honestly say I have five people that in influenced my childhood. i only have three peoples that really infiluenced me as a child,my mom and my grandparents(my mom parents).My mom was very young when she had me,so that meant my grandparents helped take care of me.My mom raised me as a single parent and has been a great inspiration in my life.My mom did whatever she had to do or needed to do take care of me. As I got older my mom and I got closer and there is nothing that I will not tell my mom or talk to her about. My grandparents were the best grandparents that any child could have had.Rest their soul now that the both are deceased.
